UW Superior – Gates Health & Wellness Center

Superior, WI

The original University of Wisconsin-Superior Gates Gym was completed in 1966. Throughout the passing years, the University experienced changing needs including a growing Health & Human Performance program, an increasing overall interest in fitness by students and staff, and the need to provide equal facilities for men and women athletes. In an effort to satisfy these needs, a project including a 115,000-square-foot addition and extensive renovation of approximately 24,000 square feet was implemented.

The spaces included in the design of the new facility include a 200-meter track and gymnasium, a physiology and exercise lab, exercise and fitness rooms, an aerobic fitness center, racquetball courts, locker rooms, a training room, faculty offices, a general classroom, and storage space.

The Gates Health & Wellness Center project will enable the University to host both local and regional athletic tournaments in addition to expanding and enhancing the academic programs offered at the University.
